Harriet Beecher Stowe, born Beecher June 14, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut, was an American writer and anti-slavery activist. She is best known for her Roman Uncle Tom's cottage which aroused great public opinion against slavery in the United States when it was published, on March 20, 1852.
